The story of Giselle may be well known, but there are facts about the popular ballet that even the greatest dance enthusiasts don’t know. For example, the original show was as much about acting as it was about dance. In the final moments of Act 1, the dancer performing the role of Giselle is required to showcase not only her dance technique, but also her range of emotional expression.
This July, Capetonians will get the chance to enjoy the Cape Town City Ballet’s interpretation of this tragic tale, which sees a peasant girl losing her mind after being jilted by a fickle lover. Accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the show will not disappoint.
